Sultan Muda Siregar
When I returned to my village some time ago, I made time to take a walk in the fields. Incidentally my father has some paddy fields are cultivated by neighbors with sharing system. When my view is drawn to the vast expanse of rice fields, I was suddenly struck by the ringing of a mobile phone. Apparently one of the farmers there was a phone call from her son who works in Malaysia. Ten years ago, would be very strange if they see membawahandphone farmers into the fields, there are those who bring a radio to listen to favorite songs played by the announcer to accompany when caring for plants. Currently, the penetration of mobile phone use reaching down to remote villages. Not only to remote villages, people in the interior until the Papuan also enjoy this mobile service. For information, I am writing this post from Yahukimo, Papua Province. In 2003-2004, I was excited with the advent of GPRS technology, which I can access the Internet via mobile phones. At that time the connection is slow and expensive GPRS can only be enjoyed by people in large cities. The device is limited, even I got confused at that time in buying mobile phones, among which could GPRS (Siemens ME45) or that can play MP3 (Siemens SL-45i). There is no device that can do both at once. Currently, the latest output devices are able to access the Internet, make video calls, streaming video, play music, listen to the radio, even some phones are able to turn the television broadcast. New Blackberry that was originally enjoyed by business people, there is now in the grip of young children and adolescents. Apparently, this trend not only in Indonesia. Progress has been pervading the global world. I observed during a visit to Thailand in November 2010 and then, habits of young children in there in terms of gadgets are not much different from our habits in Indonesia. Since the era of Friendster, which was opened to the public in 2002, seen the development of parading into social networking technology, coupled with the emergence of social networking sites, including Facebook and Twitter boom. In the world of any publication, the term blog. If in the past news and opinions mostly removed through mass media or portal websites in a structured organization, now people even express opinions, share information through personal blogs. Support-support for social networking could not be separated from the availability of Internet infrastructure that spread to the corners of the ground water. If in the past most people access the Internet through a fixed station in the home, office or internet cafe, now many of them accessed the Internet using mobile devices, ranging from a laptop that has WiFi and mobile internet via cellular network, to access via mobile phones and tablet PCs . I personally really enjoyed working with PCs and a wide screen. But I need to work in a move to make me need a device that small, lightweight, multifunctional, and easily taken anywhere. I use a laptop that is small, fast and has a long battery life. I carry a Blackberry device that I use for phone, SMS, chat, receive email, and connect to social networks. I use my laptop for multimedia work, compile the program, create reports and do the legwork. Laptops were not lit at all times, so I also use my Blackberry active day to draft letters or writing, taking photos and video for documentation. Then, the tablet PC shine again with the launch by Apple iPad, Galaxy Tab by Samsung, and many other vendors who also produce a kind of tablet PCs. With a size that is easy to carry, fast computing and battery life make me interested to have it soon. And the technology also conical towards mobile. In 2011, the mobile industry will develop a technology that mutual collaboration between infrastructure and content. In terms of infrastructure, will show the race a multifunction mobile equipment with higher specifications (camera resolution, screen, sound quality), more easily portable, battery last longer, faster, and can do many things with ease. In terms of content, web service providers, email, e-commerce, social networking, online games, and other services will strive to provide care system that increasingly has the compatibility with mobile devices owned by its users. In my belief, Indonesia began to shine, supported by a growing number of creative developers to establish a variety of start-up company that provides various services that can be easily accessed via mobile devices.
